More Rain/Snowfall with few heavy falls predicted during the week

Met Office informed that, the weather system presently giving rain over the country is likely become intensify further in Balochistan from Thursday and likely to extend upper parts on Friday. Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Rain with Snowfall over the hills (isolated heavy to very heavy falls) is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Pishin, Zhob, Qila Abdullah, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Noshki, Turbat, Panjgur, Gwadar, Pasni, Jiwani, Lasbella, Kalat, Khuzdar, Mastung, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Jhalmagsi, Bolan, Sibbi, Kohlu, Barkhan, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas and Khairpur on 06th January (Thursday evening/night) and 07th January (Friday).

While, in Murree, Galliyat, Neelum valley, Bagh, Haveli, Rawalakot, Naran, Kaghan, Hunza, Gilgit, Skardu, Astore, Chitral, Dir, Swat and Malam Jabba from 06th January (Thursday) to 09th January (Sunday afternoon).

Possible Impacts:

  • Farmers are advised to take necessary precautionary measures to protect standing crops from the harmful impacts of stagnant water due to current and expected heavy rains.
  • Heavy rainfall may generate flash flooding in vulnerable parts of Sibbi, Bolan, Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Naseerabad and Kohlu on 06th (night) / 07th January and hill Torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan on 07th January (Friday).
  • Heavy falls may cause urban flooding in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Sargodha on 07th /08th January.
  • Heavy snowfall may cause road closures (Quetta, Pishin, Ziarat, Qilla Abdullah, Harnai, Chaman on 06th/07th January. While, Murree, Galliyat, Nathiagali, Kaghan, Naran, Dir, Swat, Chitral, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum valley, Bagh and Haveli districts from 06th January (Thursday evening/night) to 09th January (Sunday afternoon).
  • Possibility of Avalanches/Landslides in the vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir can not be ruled out during the period.

Met Office informed that, a strong westerly wave is likely to enter western and upper parts of the country on 02nd January Sunday (evening/night) and likely to grip most parts of the country on Monday and may persist till 07th January (Friday). Under the influence of this weather system:

Met Office informed that after a long dry period, a strong westerly weather system is likely to enter western/upper parts of the country on Saturday (evening/night) and likely to grip most parts of the country on Sunday and may persist till Tuesday. Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Prevailing Smoggy condition in urban cities and water stress in Barani areas is likely to subside.
  • Rainfall will be beneficial for the Wheat crop.
  • Heavy rainfall may generate flash flooding in vulnerable parts of Sibbi, Bolan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Naseerabad and Kohlu on Saturday/Sunday.
  • • Heavy snowfall may cause road closures (Murree, Galliyat, Nathiagali, Kaghan, Naran, Dir, Swat, Chitral, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum valley, Bagh and Haveli districts during the forecast period.)

Rain/Snowfall predicted in Upper parts on Saturday/Sunday

Met Office informed that after a long dry spell, weak westerly weather system is likely to enter upper parts of the country and likely to persist till Sunday. Under the influence of this weather system:

Rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and Northeast Punjab during Saturday (evening/night) and Sunday.

  • Rain/wind-thunderstorm is also expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Pishin, Zhob and its surrounding on Saturday(evening/night).
  • Rain-wind-thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) is expected in Kashmir, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad on Sunday.
  • Light rain/wind-thunderstorm is expected in Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal and Lahore on Saturday(night)/ Sunday.
  • Snowfall is also expected in Neelum valley, Bagh, Rawalakot, Nathiagali, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Hunza, Gilgit, Skardu, Astore, Chitral, Dir, Swat and Malam Jabba on Sunday.

Possible Impacts:

  • Prevailing Smog conditions are likely to subside in plains of Punjab.
  • Dense Fog is likely to develop over plain areas of Punjab from Monday.
  • Night temperatures are likely to fall gradually after the wet spell.

Met Office informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter upper/central parts of the country on Friday. Under the influence of this weather system

  • Rain-wind-thunderstorm with snowfall over mountains is expected in Islamabad, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Bhakkar, Layyah, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir from Friday(evening/night) to Sunday.

  • Wind-thunderstorm with light rain is also expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Khanpur, Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Ziarat and Loralai on Friday (night)/Saturday.

Possible Impacts:

  • Windstorm may cause damages to vulnerable structures in Upper/Central parts of the country.
  • Due to westerly wave day temperatures will fall rapidly across the country particularly in upper parts during the forecast period
  • Winds/Rainfall may affect the crops in harvesting areas.

Met Office informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter upper parts of the country on Sunday. Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Rain-wind-thunderstorm (isolated heavy falls) with light snowfall over high mountains are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir from Sunday(evening/night) to Tuesday.
  • Rain-wind-thunderstorm is expected in Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Bajaur, Kurram, Kohat, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal and Lahore from Sunday (evening/night) and Monday.
  • Wind-thunderstorm are also expected in Central and South Punjab during Sunday (evening/night) and Monday.

More Rain-wind/Thundershower with occasional gaps predicted in Southern half of the country

Monsoon rainfalls are likely to subside in Upper parts of the country in coming days

Met Office informed that strong monsoon currents are likely to penetrate in Sindh from 27th September (Monday) and likely to continue till 02nd October (Saturday). Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Rain-wind-thundershower is expected in Mirpur Khas, Thar Parker, Umar Kot, Sanghar, Thatta, Badin, Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Allayar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Mitiari, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Kalat, Khuzdar and Lasbella from 28th September (Tuesday) to 02nd October (Saturday) with occasional gaps. Heavy falls are also expected in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Dadu and Hyderabad during the period.
  • Rain-wind-thundershower is also expected at scattered places in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Kohlu, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Barkhan, Zhob, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Bahawalpur during 28th September (Tuesday) to 30th September (Thursday).
  • Isolated Rain-wind-thunderstorm is expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Northeast Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during 27th /28th September, 30th September (Thursday) and 01st October (Friday).

Possible Impacts:

  • Wind-storm may cause damages to the vulnerable structures.
  • Heavy fall may generate urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad and may trigger flash flooding in Kalat, Khuzdar and Lasbella during the forecast period.

Met Office informed that monsoon currents presently giving rains in upper/central parts of the country are now likely to give more rain thunderstorm in southern parts of the country:

  • Rain-wind-thundershower (with Isolated heavy falls) are expected in Tharparker, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Karachi, Jamshoro, Dadu, Larkana, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kohlu, Barkhan, Sibbi, Loralai, Musakhel, Zhob, Ziarat, Quetta, Pishin, Mastung, Naseerabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella and Awaran districts from 31st August Tuesday (evening/night) to 3rd September (Friday).
  • Rain-wind-thunderstorm is also expected in South Punjab (Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan( on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Possible Impacts:

  • Prevailing very humid and hot weather conditions likely to subside during the forecast period.
  • Possibility of damaging effects due to wind-storm during the period.
  • Heavy rainfall may generate urban flooding in Karachi ,Thatta, Badin and Hyderabad may trigger flash flooding in local Streams/Barsati Nullahs of Koh-e- Suleman and eastern Balochistan on Thursday and Friday.
