Rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills predicted in upper parts on
Wednesday and Thursday (19th & 20th) February, 2025

Met Office predicted that after a long dry period a frontal weather system is likely to enter upper parts of the country on 19th February, 2025 and will persist in Northern areas till 21st February. Under the influence of this weather system:

Gilgit Baltistan/Kashmir

Rain-wind/thunderstorm with few heavy snowfalls is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar) Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 19t to 21st February with occasional gaps۔

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Rain-wind/thunderstorm with few heavy snowfalls over hills is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bunner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak and Kohat on 19th & 20th February with occasional gaps.

Punjab/Islamabad

Rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfalls in Murree and Galliyat from 19th to 21st February with occasional gaps.
Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Islamabad, Potohar region, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jahng and Toba Tek Singh on 19th and 20th February. While light rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Taunsa Sharif, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara and Bahawalnagar on 19th February.

Balochistan

Rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfalls over hills is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chagi, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob and Musakhel on 18th and 19th February.

Sindh

Dry weather will prevail in most parts of the province during the period. However, gusty winds are expected along the coastal areas.

Possible Impacts and advises:
  • Heavy Snowfall may cause road closure/ slippery conditions in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli on 19th to 21st February afternoon.
  • Hailstorm is also expected at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab and Kashmir during the forecast period on 19th night/20th February.
  • Possibility of the landslides/avalanche in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree and Galliyat during the period.
  • Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and may avoid unnecessary travelling during the period.
  • Rain may be beneficial for the standing crops particularly in Barani areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Rain-windstorm (snowfall over hills) predicted in northwest Balochistan and northern parts of the country

Met office predicted that a westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of the country on 18th January. Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Moderate rain-windstorm (snowfall over hills) is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chagi, Noushki, Kalat, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, Kharan, Kech, Panjgur and Gwadar from 18th to 20th January with occasional gaps.   • Heavy Snowfall may cause road closure/ slippery conditions in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah and Qilla Saifullah from 02nd to 06th January, 2025.
  • Possibility of the landslides/avalanche in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree and Galliyat during the period.
  • Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and may avoid unnecessary travelling during the period.

    Cold wave/frost conditions likely in the country during the week Rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over hills) also predicted in upper parts

    Met office predicted that a westerly wave is likely to affect upper parts of the country from 07th December. Under the influence of this weather system:

    A cold wave is likely to affect most parts of the country from 08th to 14th December. Under the influence of cold wave conditions, a significant drop in day and night temperatures are predicted. Day temperatures are likely to drop (04-06) °C below normal in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. While (05-07) °C below normal in Balochistan and Sindh. Cold with gusty winds are likely in Sindh, Balochistan and parts of Punjab. Frost is also likely to develop over plains.

    Moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Manshera, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Astore, Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Haveli and Bagh from 07th (night) to 11th December with occasional gaps.

    Light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad and Jhang from 07th (night) to 08th December (afternoon).

    Possible Impacts and advice:

  • Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast particularly frost conditions.
  • Avoid long period of outdoor exposure in cold and windy weather during night and morning hours.
  • Tourists and travelers visiting mountainous areas are advised to remain cautious during the period.

    RAIN-WIND/THUNDERSTORM (SNOWFALL OVER MOUNTAINS) PREDICTED IN BALOCHISTAN AND UPPER PARTS.

    Met office predicted that a westerly wave is likely to affect western parts of the country from 28th November (night). Under the influence of this weather system:

    • Moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) is expected in Quetta, Pishin, Qilla Saifullah, Zhob, Shirani, Musa Khel, Barkhan, Ziarat, Loralai, Dera Ghazi Khan on 28th (night)/ 29th November and 02nd December. While in Gawadar, Kech, Panjgur, Awaran, Kalat, Khuzdar and Lasbella on 28th (night)/ 29th November.

    • Light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm (with snowfall over the mountains) is expected in Waziristan, Kurrum, Mohmand, Khyber, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Manshera, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Astore, Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Haveli and Bagh from 29th (evening/night) to 02nd December with occasional gaps.

    • Light rain/drizzle is also expected in Pothohar region, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Mianwali, Bhakkar and Layyah on 29th (evening/night) and 02nd December.

  • Air quality conditions in Punjab is likely to improve.
  • Foggy conditions are likely to develop over the plains of Punjab in coming days.

    Depression over West-central Arabian Sea

    The Depression over Central Arabian Sea has moved further west-northwestward during past 10 hours and now lies over West-central Arabian Sea at around Latitude 16.2N & Longitude 61.0E, at a distance of about 1150km southwest of Karachi, 1080km southwest of Ormara. 1010km south of Gwadar, 520km southeast of Masirah, Oman and 740 east of Salalah, Oman. The system is likely to move further west towards Oman coast and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during next 12 hours.

    • Squally winds with speed of 30-40 Km/hour gusting 50Km/hour are likely around the system center with sea condition to remain rough till tomorrow. Fishermen of Balochistan are advised to remain careful and avoid going to deep sea till tomorrow

    None of the Pakistan coastal area is any threat from this system.

While, rain-wind/thunderstorm in Mardan, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan from 05th to 07th October with occasional gapes.

    • Moderate to heavy rains may increase flow in local nullahs/streams in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Dir, Swat, Mala Kand, Shangla, Bajaur, Mohmand and Khyber during the forecast period.
    • Landslides may disrupt roads in the vulnerable points of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the forecast period.
    • Windstorm and lightning may affect/damage weak structures like roof/wall of Kacha houses, electric poles, bill boards, vehicles, and solar panels etc. during the forecast period.
    • Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast.

    Met office predicted that moist currents from Bay of Bengal are likely to penetrate in upper parts from 25Th September. A westerly wave is also likely to approach upper parts on 26Th September. Under the influence of these weather systems:

    Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: : Rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavyfalls) are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat from 26th September (evening/night) to 01st October while in Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan from 27th September to 01st October with occasional gapes.

    Sindh: Hot & Dry weather is expected in most parts of the province. However, Rain wind thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Mirpurkhas, Tharparker, Umerkot and adjoining areas from 26th to 28th September.

    Possible Impacts and advises:

    • Heavy rains may increase flow in local nullas/streams in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi and Northeast Punjab during the forecast period.
    • Heavyfalls may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Sialkot during the wet period.

    Sindh: Rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tharparkar, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot and Sanghar on 03rd  and 04th  September with occasional gaps.

    Possible Impacts and advises:

    • Heavy rains may increase flow in local nullas and streams in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi and Northeast Punjab on 02nd(night) and 03rd 
    • Heavy Downpour may causeurban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar on 02nd night and 03rd
    • Landslidesmay disrupt roads in the vulnerable points of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet spell.  
    • Moderate rains may generate Landslides at vulnerable points and increase flows in local nullahs/streams of   Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan on 03rdand 04th September.
    • Heavy downpour/windstormand lightning may affect damage weak structures like roof/wall of Kacha houses, electric poles, bill boards, vehicles, cause disruptions in the roads and solar panels etc. during the forecast period.
    • Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast.
    • Travelers and tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and manage their travelling according to weather conditions and avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell.

    Current spell of rainfall likely to continue during the week Torrential rains in southern & central parts of the country

    Met office informed that deep depression currently located over North of Gujrat (India), is likely to reach adjoining areas of Pakistan (Eastern Sindh) during next 24 hours. Due to this weather system, strong monsoon currents are penetrating in the country (especially southern parts). A westerly wave is also likely to affect upper parts of the country from 29th onwards. Under the influence of this weather system:

    Sindh: Widespread rain-wind/thundershower (scattered heavyfalls with isolated very heavyfalls) are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Tando Allayar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot, Matiari, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Khairpur, Larkana, Jacobabad and Nausheroferoze from 27th to 31st August.

    Balochistan: Widespread rain-wind/thundershower (with Scattered heavyfalls) is expected in Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbella, Awaran, Naseerabad, Sibbi, Jaffarabad, Kohlu, Harnai, Dera Bugti, Zhob, Quetta, Ziarat, Sherani, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Loralai, Mastung, Bolan, Jhal Magsi, Kech, Panjgur, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni and Ormara from 27th to 31st August.

    Punjab/Islamabad: Rain-wind/thundershower (with few heavyfalls) are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Lohdran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanpur and Rahimyar Khan from 27th to 31st August with occasional gaps.

    Kashmir: Rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavyfalls) are expected in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 27th to 31st August with occasional gaps.

    Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavyfalls) are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan from 27th to 31st August with occasional gaps.

    Gilgit-Baltistan:  Rain-wind/thunderstorm (with isolated heavyfalls) is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) from 27th to 31st August with occasional gaps.

     

    Possible Impacts and advises:

    • Pluvial flood/inundation may occur in low lying areas of Sindh, Balochistan and south/central Punjab.
    • Torrential rains may generate Flash Flooding in local nullahs/streams & Hill torrents of D.G Khan, Dadu, Kalat, Khuzdar, Jaffarabad, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Barkhan, Loralai, Awaran, Panjgur, Washuk, Mastung and Lasbella from 27th to 31st
    • Strong possibility of “Glacier Lake Outburst Flood” in vulnerable locations of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan.
    • Heavy Downpour may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan, Nowshera and Peshawar from 27th, 29th, 30th and 31st
    • Heavy rains may trigger Landslides in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, hilly areas of Balochistan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Waziristan from 27th to 31st
    • Coastal flooding may occur along Sindh-Makran coast during the wet period.
    • Heavy downpour/windstorm and lightning may affect daily routines, and may damage weak structures like roof/wall of Kacha houses, electric poles, bill boards and solar panels and may cause disruptions in the roads etc during the period.
    • Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast.
    • Travelers and tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and manage their travelling according to weather conditions and avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell.
    • Fishermen of Sindh and Balochistan are advised not to venture into the open sea from 27th to 31st
