Severe Heat wave conditions predicted during the week

Met Office informed that high pressure is likely to grip upper atmosphere from Sunday. Due to this high pressure day temperatures are likely to increase gradually in most parts of the country from Sunday.

  • Day temperatures are likely to remain 07-09°C above normal in upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
  • Day temperatures are likely to remain 06-08°C above normal in Upper and Central Sindh, Central and South Punjab and parts of Balochistan.

Possible Impacts:

  • Very hot and dry weather may cause water stress on water reservoirs, crops, vegetable and orchards.
  • High temperature may cause increased energy demand.
  • High temperatures may increase the base flow in the rivers during the next week.
  • Farmers are advised to manage crop water accordingly.
  • General public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.

NOTE: Judicious use of water is requested in all aspects of life.

Heat wave conditions predicted during the week

Met Office informed that due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere the day temperatures are likely to increase gradually in most parts of the country from 26th April (Tuesday) to 02nd May (Monday).

  • Day temperatures are likely to remain 06-08°C above normal in Upper and Central Sindh, Central and South Punjab and parts of Balochistan.
  • Day temperatures are likely to remain 05-07°C above normal in upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Possible Impacts:

  • Prevailing very hot and dry weather may cause water stress on water reservoirs, standing crops, vegetable and orchards.
  • Farmers are advised to manage crop water accordingly.
  • General public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.

Rain -wind/thunderstorm predicted from Monday to Wednesday

Met Office informed that westerly wave is likely to enter western part of the country on 17th April (night) and likely to persist till 20th April (Wednesday). Under the influence of this weather system.

  • Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Chaghi, Noshki, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Loralai, Mastung, Zhob, Ziarat, Kalat, Sibbi, Naseerabad and Barkhan on 17th (night) & 18th April.
  • Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Potohar region, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Sing, Jhang, Sheikhupura, Lahore, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal and Gujrat from 18th April (evening/night) to 20th April.
  • Rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Gilgit, Ghizer, Astore and Skardu) from 18th (night) to 21st April.
  • Dust storm/dust raising winds/drizzle are also expected in, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana and Dera Bugti on 17th & 18th April.

Possible Impacts:

  • Windstorm may cause damages to vulnerable structures and standing crops in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, and Kashmir during the forecast period.
  • Day temperatures are likely to fall 03-05°c during the forecast period.
  • Rain may cause landsliding in the vulnerable areas of Gilgit-Baltistan from 19th to 21st April.

Hot and Dry weather predicted in the Country during next 10 days

Heat wave conditions in Sindh, South Punjab & Balochistan from Wednesday to Friday

Met Office informed that due to a persistent high pressure in the upper atmosphere the day temperatures are likely to remain unusually high in most parts of the country in coming days.

  • Day temperatures are likely to remain 09-11°C above normal in Sindh, South Punjab and Southern/Central parts of Balochistan in coming days.
  • Day temperatures are likely to remain 08-10°C above normal in upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
  • Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on 02nd and 03rd April (Saturday& Sunday), while light rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in Islamabad, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum during the period.

Possible Impacts:

  • Prevailing long dry spell may cause water stress on water reservoirs, standing crops, vegetable and orchards.
  • Farmers are advised to manage crop water accordingly.
  • Early harvesting of wheat crop.
  • General public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.

Heat wave conditions predicted during the week.

Met Office informed that due to a persistent high pressure in the upper atmosphere the day temperatures are likely to remain unusually high in most parts of the country during the week.

  • Day temperatures in Northern Balochistan, Upper Sindh, South Punjab, Kashmir and adjoining areas will remain 09-10°C above normal.
  • Day temperature in Islamabad, Upper & Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Lower Sindh and South Balochistan will remain 07-08°C above normal.

Possible Impacts:

  • Dry period and heat wave conditions in the country may cause water stress to the standing crops, vegetable and orchards.
  • Farmers are advised to manage crop water accordingly.
  • Early harvesting of wheat may start in Sindh and South Punjab.
  • Unusual high temperatures may cause pollen concentration to rise sharply in Islamabad and Lahore.
  • General public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Dust raising/Gusty winds are also expected in North Balochistan, South Punjab and Upper Sindh during the period.

Met Office informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter western parts of the country on Saturday (night) and likely to persist in upper parts of the country till Thursday. Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Rain-wind/thunderstorm with snow over hills is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Pishin, Zhob, Musa Khel, Waziristan, Dera Ismail khan, Bannu, Bhakkar and Layyah from Saturday (night) to Tuesday.
  • Rain-wind/thunderstorm) with isolated heavyfalls/hailstorm expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir from Saturday (night) to Thursday with occasional gaps. While, in Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Peshawar, Bajaur, Kurram, Khyber, Kohat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Khushab, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore and Sialkot, on Sunday and Monday(morning).

Met Office informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter western parts of the country on Monday (night) and likely to persist in upper parts of the country till Thursday. Under the influence of this weather system:

  • Rain-wind/thunderstorm with snow over hills is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Pishin, Zhob, Musa Khel, Waziristan, Dera Ismail khan, Bannu, Bhakkar and Layyah on Monday (night) and Tuesday.

  • Light with few moderate rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Mianwali, Khushab, Bhakkar, Layyah, Okara and Sahiwal on Wednesday (evening/night) to Thursday.
  • Moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm with isolated hailstorm are also expected in Kashmir, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur and Sheikhupura from Wednesday (evening/night) to Thursday.
  • Light with few moderate snowfall is expected in Murree, Galliyat, Nathiagali, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Neelum valley, Bagh, Haveli, Astore and Hunza on Wednesday (evening/night)/Thursday.
  • Windstorm/dust raising winds are also expected along Sindh-Makran coast on Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Rainfall will be beneficial for crops particularly wheat in Barani areas.

  • Heavy snowfall may cause road closures in Murree, Galliyat, Nathiagali, Kaghan, Naran, Dir, Swat, Chitral, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum valley, Bagh and Haveli districts on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Heavy falls may cause urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Sialkot during the weekend.
  • Possibility of Landslides in the vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir cannot be ruled out during the period.
  • Rain will be beneficial for the crops.
  • Prevailing dense foggy conditions are likely to subside in plains of Punjab during the period.

  • Prevailing dense foggy conditions are likely to subside.
