A shallow westerly wave will produce light to moderate rain in northeast Punjab & upper KP and snow over mountains bringing little relief. Less than average rainfall is expected in November-December, therefore smog, fog and mist will remain prevalent phenomena. Higher concentration of smog is expected in urban areas.

Met office informed that it is not possible to predict the date and time of earthquake in advance and no such press release/ warning has been issued by Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The news appearing in daily UMAT, Karachi edition for destructive earthquake in October has not been issued by PMD.

Hot Weather Likely to Prevail in Karachi from 22nd April to 25th April Due to a high pressure cell, the winds will take turn from southwesterly to northwesterly gradually which will bring hot and dry air mass to Karachi and other coastal areas cutting the sea breeze. Day temperatures will gradually increase on Friday from 38C to 40C on Sunday and then it will start decreasing attaining the normal level on Wednesday. Winds will start blowing from the sea restoring the sea breeze.

Date: March 2, 2016 Weather Advisory Heavy Rains resulting Flash Floods in Balochistan Met. Office predicted widespread rains with isolated heavy thundershowers in Balochistan in coming days, triggering flash flooding in the vulnerable areas of the province. Met. Office informed that most parts of Balochistan are likely to remain in the grip of an active weather system (a low pressure area, located over SE Iran), during next two days that will produce widespread rain/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in Makran, Kalat, Naseerabad, Sibbi and Quetta divisions on Thursday and Friday. Heavy rains may trigger flash flooding in the vulnerable districts (Kech, Panjgur, Awaran, Khuzdar, Kalat, Bolan, Jhal Magsi, Sibbi, Harnai, Kohlu, Loralai and Quetta) during the period. Another low pressure area is very likely to develop over the same areas of southern Iran during the coming week that will produce more rains of same intensity in Balochistan during mid of next week, recurring flash flooding in the vulnerable districts of the province. All concerned authorities are advised to remain ALERT about the unusual weather conditions in Balochistan during next 10 days.
(Muhammad Farooq) Meteorologist NWFC, Islamabad Date: February 28, 2016 Press Release Rains predicted in the country during coming week Met-Office predicted rain/thunderstorm at a number of places in Balochistan and at scattered places of Punjab, KP and GB-Kashmir during the coming week. Met-Office informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter in Balochistan in next 48 hrs that will produce rain/thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds at a number of places of the province during Tuesday to Thursday. Some northern and central parts of the province (Quetta, Sibbi & Kalat divisions) may receive isolated heavy falls during the period. This same weather system is likely to grip upper parts of the country causing scattered rain/thunderstorm with isolated hailstorms over Islamabad, KP, FATA, Punjab and Kashmir on Friday/Saturday. Isolated rain/thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds is also expected over upper Sindh (Sukkur & Larkana divisions) on Wednesday/Thursday and there are few chances (20%) of dust-thunderstorm/rain in Karachi & Hyderabad divisions on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Harsh winter is over and spring has set in. Day and night temperatures are gradually picking up their normal rhythm giving rise to sprouting, flowering and fruit-setting in the territorial domain of the capital including Rawalpindi. Rain is expected from 1-3 March in Islamabad and Rawalpindi followed by the clear skies. The pollen concentration will increase gradually with temperature and attain its peak around mid March. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has installed pollen monitoring devices for spring season in E, F, G and H sectors of Islamabad. Pollen monitoring section of PMD monitors eight types of pollens i.e. Paper Mulberry, Pine, Dandelion, Cannabis, Acacia, Alternaria, Eucalyptus and Grasses. The Paper Mulberry is the most abundant among all and its concentration touches the extreme limits of about 40,000 per cubic meter of air at the peak of blossom season. People suffering from respiratory diseases experience serious problems due to sharp increase in pollen concentrations. During March, four spells of rain associated with strong winds are expected each spanning over 2-3 days. Under rainy and windy conditions, pollen concentration in air will fall temporarily. PMD will continue issuing warnings/advisories related to pollen and weather till the end of the season in mid April. The information about pollen concentration in different sectors of Islamabad will be made available on daily basis to the TV channels, Radio and Newspapers. Met-Office informed that a westerly wave is likely to enter in upper parts of the country in next couple of days that will produce isolated light rain and snowfall over the hills of Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Another active westerly wave that will grip western and upper parts of the country on Thursday is likely to produce good rain with snowfall over the hills on Thursday and Friday. Under the influence of this weather system, scattered rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Islamabad, North Balochistan (Quetta, Kalat, Zhob & Sibbi divisions), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), FATA, Upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions), Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Thursday and Friday.
