Heatwave Likely to Persist during Next Week

Met Office informed that most parts of the country are likely to remain in the grip of heatwave like conditions during the next week. However, slight relief is expected in most parts of the country during 14th (evening/night) to 17th May, 2022, that is, mainly due to duststorms/gusty winds, rain-thunderstorm at scattered places in most parts of the country in the afternoon and evening/night. Day temperatures are again likely to rise from 18th May, 2022.

  • Prevailing very hot and dry weather may cause water stress on water (reservoirs), crops, vegetable and orchards.
  • High temperature may cause increased energy and water demand.
  • High temperature may cause heat stroke. Senior citizens and children are more vulnerable.
  • The base flow may further increase in the rivers during the next week.

Possible Impacts:

  • General public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and take precautionary measures.
  • Farmers are advised to manage crop water accordingly.
  • Special care should be taken for the needs of livestock and pets.
  • Judicious use of water is requested in all aspects of life.
